Yuddha Kanda
युद्धकांडThe Yuddha Kanda, the book of war, is the longest Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana. It covers the march to the sea, the bridge to Lanka, the great war, the death of Ravana, Sita's fire ordeal and Rama's coronation.
What happens in the Yuddha Kanda
The vanara army marches to the southern shore. In Lanka Vibhishana urges Ravana to return Sita, is insulted and crosses over to Rama, who accepts him. Rama threatens the ocean, and Nala builds the bridge.
The siege brings duel after duel. Indrajit binds the brothers with serpent arrows until Garuda frees them. Kumbhakarna is woken and killed by Rama. Hanuman twice brings the mountain of herbs. Lakshmana kills Indrajit at his sacrifice.
Before the final duel Agastya teaches Rama the Aditya Hridayam. Rama kills Ravana with the Brahmastra and crowns Vibhishana. Sita, hurt by Rama's words, enters the fire, and Agni returns her. The Pushpaka carries them home, and Rama is crowned in Ayodhya.
Themes
