Why is Ashoka Vatika sacred?

Sita sits beneath a shimshapa tree, guarded by rakshasis and refusing Ravana's advances. Hanuman, hidden in the branches, sings Rama's story softly to win her trust, then gives her Rama's signet ring.

She sends back her crest jewel as a sign. Hanuman then wrecks the grove to draw out Ravana's warriors. Sita Eliya near Nuwara Eliya is the traditional site.
