The story

In the war at Lanka, Lakshmana fell gravely wounded, and the physician declared that only the Sanjeevani herb, growing on a distant Himalayan peak, could revive him before dawn. Hanuman flew north at once.

Reaching the mountain but unable to tell the one healing herb from the countless others glowing there, he tore up the entire peak and carried it through the sky back to Lanka in time — and Lakshmana was saved. It remains the great emblem of Hanuman’s devotion and resolve.
