Why is Rama Setu sacred?

When the ocean god rises before Rama, he says that Nala can build a bridge he will hold up. The vanaras haul trees and rocks, and in five days the causeway reaches Lanka.

On the flight home Rama points it out to Sita from the Pushpaka. The chain of shoals between Rameswaram and Mannar is traditionally identified with it.
