What is Moksha?

Moksha is liberation — release from samsara, the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, and the union of the individual self (atman) with the ultimate reality (Brahman). It is the highest of the four aims of human life, beyond dharma, artha and kama.

The paths to moksha are many: the way of knowledge (jnana), of loving devotion (bhakti), and of disciplined action (karma), each honoured in different traditions.
