Who was Arjuna?

Arjuna is the third of the five Pandava brothers and the greatest archer of his age, son of Kunti and the god Indra. Disciplined, devoted and troubled by conscience, he is Krishna’s dear friend and the listener to whom the Bhagavad Gita is spoken.

On the eve of the Kurukshetra war, overcome at the thought of fighting his own kin, he lays down his bow — and Krishna’s counsel lifts him back to his duty.
