Who is Lakshmi?
Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, prosperity and beauty, and the consort of Vishnu. She is depicted seated or standing on a blooming lotus, holding lotuses, often with gold coins flowing from one hand and the other raised in blessing.
She embodies both material and spiritual abundance, and accompanies Vishnu in each of his descents — as Sita beside Rama, and as Rukmini beside Krishna. Her worship reaches its height at Diwali, when homes are lit and cleaned to welcome her.
