Why is it celebrated?
The date varies by region: Chaitra Purnima in the north, Kartika Krishna Chaturdashi in some traditions, and in Tamil Nadu and Kerala the month of Margazhi. The Uttara Kanda tells the story of his childhood, when he leapt at the rising sun thinking it was a fruit.
