Who was Bharadwaja?

Bharadwaja is a Vedic seer and the father of Drona in the Mahabharata tradition. In the Ayodhya Kanda he receives Rama, Sita and Lakshmana at his hermitage and advises them to live at Chitrakoot, a peaceful hill ten krosha away.

When Bharata arrives with an army, Bharadwaja tests his intentions, then calls on Vishwakarma and the gods to feast every soldier in splendour. At the end of the war Rama lands at his hermitage in the Pushpaka and learns from him that all is well in Ayodhya.

In the Valmiki Ramayana
