Jamadagni is a Bhargava sage and the father of Parashurama. His killing by King Kartavirya's sons drove Parashurama to destroy the warrior kings of the earth.
Who was Jamadagni?
When Parashurama confronts Rama after the breaking of Shiva's bow, he speaks of his father's murder and his vow of vengeance against the kshatriyas. Jamadagni is thus the hidden cause of the anger Rama calms on the road home from Mithila.
