Who was Atri?

Atri is honoured as one of the Saptarishis, a seer of hymns in the Rigveda and the father, in the Puranas, of Dattatreya, Chandra and Durvasa. In the last sargas of the Ayodhya Kanda he welcomes Rama like a son.

Atri introduces his wife Anasuya, whose penance once made the Mandakini flow and ended a ten-year drought. From his hermitage the exiles enter the Dandaka forest.

In the Valmiki Ramayana

Atri appears in 2 sargas across 1 Kandas.
