Who was Vishrava?
The rakshasa Sumali sends his daughter Kaikasi to Vishrava, hoping for grandsons as mighty as Kubera. Vishrava warns her that because she came at a fearful hour her sons will be cruel, but grants that the youngest will be virtuous.
So Ravana and Kumbhakarna are born fierce, and Vibhishana righteous. Vishrava later advises Kubera to give up Lanka to Ravana and move to Kailasa.
In the Valmiki Ramayana
