Pulastya is a mind-born son of Brahma and the grandfather of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, Vibhishana and Kubera. He also secures Ravana's release when King Kartavirya Arjuna takes him prisoner.
Who was Pulastya?
Agastya opens the Uttara Kanda's history of the rakshasas with Pulastya, a sage so holy that young women who disturbed his penance were cursed to conceive. His son Vishrava fathers Kubera and, by Kaikasi, Ravana and his siblings.
When the thousand-armed Kartavirya Arjuna captures Ravana on the Narmada, Pulastya goes in person to ask for his grandson's freedom.
