Who was Shatananda?

When Vishwamitra arrives in Mithila with Rama and Lakshmana, Shatananda's first question is about his mother. Learning that Rama has released Ahalya from her curse, he thanks Rama with joy.

He then narrates Vishwamitra's life over many sargas: the king Kaushika, the quarrel with Vasishtha over Kamadhenu, the stories of Trishanku and Shunahshepa, the temptations of Menaka and Rambha, and the long road to becoming a brahmarshi.
