Who was Yudhajit?

Yudhajit comes to Ayodhya after the four weddings and takes his nephews Bharata and Shatrughna to his father Ashwapati's court. Their absence means Bharata is far away when Kaikeyi claims her boons.

In the Uttara Kanda, Yudhajit, now king of Kekaya, sends his priest Gargya to Rama asking help against the gandharvas of the Indus lands. Rama sends Bharata, who conquers the region and founds Takshashila and Pushkalavati for his sons.
