Who was Sushena?

Sugriva sends Sushena with a great army to search the western lands. In the Yuddha Kanda he tends the wounded, and when Ravana's spear strikes Lakshmana down, he tells Hanuman which herbs to bring from the mountains and uses them to restore Lakshmana.

He also heals Lakshmana's wounds after the duel with Indrajit.
