Who was Anjana?
Jambavan tells Hanuman that his mother Anjana was once the apsara Punjikasthala, cursed to take a vanara form. Vayu, enchanted by her on a mountaintop, became the father of her son.
The hill of Anjanadri near Hampi is traditionally honoured as the place where she gave birth to Hanuman, which is why he is called Anjaneya.
In the Valmiki Ramayana
Anjana appears in 2 sargas across 2 Kandas.
