Who was Mandhata?
Mandhata is famous in the Puranas as a world ruler who conquered from sunrise to sunset. Proud of his power, he decided to conquer heaven, and Indra sent him first to defeat Lavana, son of Madhu.
Lavana killed Mandhata with the spear Shiva had given his father. Chyavana tells this to Shatrughna as a warning, and Shatrughna wins by attacking Lavana when he is away from the spear.
