Who was Asamanjas?

Asamanjas, son of Sagara's queen Keshini, delights in throwing children into the Sarayu to drown. The people complain and Sagara, putting dharma above his love for his son, banishes him.

Asamanjas's son Amshuman is everything his father is not: gentle, brave and loved. The story shows a king choosing the people's welfare over his own family, an idea that echoes through Rama's own reign.
