Kratu is one of the mind-born sons of Brahma and one of the seven great rishis. He is named among the sages who come to Ayodhya to bless Rama after the war.
Kratu belongs to the oldest generation of seers, created by Brahma to help populate the worlds. In the Uttara Kanda he is part of the assembly of rishis that visits Rama and hears Agastya tell the history of the rakshasas.
