Rishyamukha
ऋष्यमूकRishyamukha is the hill where Sugriva hides from Vali, safe because of Matanga's curse. Here Rama and Sugriva become allies.
RegionNear Hampi, Karnataka
Why is Rishyamukha sacred?
Vali cannot enter Rishyamukha because Matanga cursed him for throwing Dundubhi's body into the hermitage. Sugriva lives there in exile with Hanuman and three other ministers.
Sita drops her ornaments onto this hill as Ravana carries her away. Sugriva later shows them to Rama, and the two swear friendship before a fire.
