Why is Agastya Ashram sacred?

Sutikshna directs Rama to Agastya, the sage who tamed the Vindhya and made the south safe for sages. Agastya gives Rama the bow of Vishnu, an inexhaustible quiver and a sword, and points him to Panchavati on the Godavari.

In the Uttara Kanda, Agastya visits Ayodhya after the war and tells Rama the history of the rakshasas and of Ravana's birth.
