Pampa Sarovar

पंपा सरोवर

Pampa is the lotus lake near Kishkindha where Shabari waited for Rama. Rama's grief for Sita in the spring beside the lake is one of the epic's most famous passages.

Why is Pampa Sarovar sacred?

Kabandha directs Rama to Pampa, and Shabari, the disciple of Matanga, welcomes him nearby before ascending to heaven. Rama then walks by the lake in spring, and its beauty sharpens his longing for Sita.

From here the brothers approach Rishyamukha, where Sugriva watches them and sends Hanuman to find out who they are.
