Parvati is the goddess of the mountain, consort of Shiva and mother of Ganesha and Kartikeya. Reborn from Sati, daughter of Himavan and Mena, she won Shiva through intense penance. She is the gentle form of the Goddess, who also appears as Durga and Kali.
Iconography and symbolism
Parvati is shown as a graceful, fair young woman, usually two-armed when beside Shiva and four-armed when alone, holding a lotus, with a crown and red garments. She sits on Shiva's left on Kailash with Ganesha and Kartikeya, or rides a lion or tiger in her Durga form.
