Naimisharanya
नैमिषारण्यNaimisharanya is the forest where Rama performs the Ashwamedha sacrifice. Here Lava and Kusha sing the Ramayana before Rama, and Sita returns to the earth.
RegionNaimisharanya, Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh
Why is Naimisharanya sacred?
Rama holds the great horse sacrifice in the Naimisha forest by the Gomati, with a golden image of Sita beside him. Valmiki's two disciples sing the epic in the assembly, and Rama recognises them as his sons.
Valmiki brings Sita to the gathering. She calls on the earth to receive her if she has been true, and Bhudevi rises on a throne and takes her away.
