Dasharatha's Wise Ministers

उस महात्मा इक्ष्वाकु राजा के गुणवान मंत्री थे, जो मंत्रणा और संकेत समझते थे और सदा उसके प्रिय और हित में लगे रहते थे।

The great souled Ikshvaku king had ministers rich in virtue, who understood counsel and read his intentions, and who were always devoted to what was dear and good for him.

उस वीर के आठ यशस्वी मंत्री थे, पवित्र और अनुरक्त, जो सदा राजकार्य में लगे रहते थे।

The hero had eight illustrious ministers, pure and devoted, always attentive to the work of the king.

वे थे धृष्टि, जयंत, विजय, सिद्धार्थ, अर्थसाधक, अशोक, मंत्रपाल, और आठवें सुमंत्र।

They were Dhrishti, Jayanta, Vijaya, Siddhartha, Arthasadhaka, Ashoka, Mantrapala, and Sumantra the eighth.

उनके दो सम्मानित ऋत्विज थे, ऋषियों में श्रेष्ठ वसिष्ठ और वामदेव, और इनके अलावा अन्य मंत्री भी थे।

He had two esteemed priests, the best of sages, Vasishtha and Vamadeva, and other counsellors besides.

वे विद्या से विनीत, लज्जाशील, कुशल और संयमी थे; श्रीमान, महात्मा, शास्त्रों के ज्ञाता और दृढ़ पराक्रमी; यशस्वी, सावधान और कहे अनुसार ही करने वाले; तेज, क्षमा और यश से युक्त, और सदा मुस्कुराकर बोलने वाले।

They were disciplined by learning, modest, skilled and self controlled; noble, great souled, versed in the shastras and firm in valour; renowned, attentive and doing exactly as told; endowed with splendour, patience and fame, and always speaking with a smile.

क्रोध से, काम से या अर्थ के लिए वे कभी झूठ नहीं बोलते थे। अपने लोगों या शत्रुओं में जो कुछ हो रहा हो, हो चुका हो या केवल सोचा गया हो, गुप्तचरों के द्वारा उनसे कुछ भी छिपा नहीं था।

Neither from anger nor for desire or gain would they speak a false word. Nothing was unknown to them, among their own people or the enemy, whether being done, already done, or only planned, for they learned it through spies.

वे व्यवहार में कुशल और मित्रता में परखे हुए थे, और समय आने पर अपने पुत्रों को भी दंड दे सकते थे।

They were skilled in affairs and tested in friendship, and when the time came they would punish even their own sons.

वे कोष भरने और सेना सँभालने में लगे रहते थे, और किसी विरोधी को भी, यदि उसने अपराध न किया हो, हानि नहीं पहुँचाते थे।

They were devoted to filling the treasury and maintaining the army, and would not harm even a hostile man who had done no wrong.

वे वीर और सदा उत्साही थे, राजशास्त्र का पालन करते थे, और देश के सज्जन निवासियों की सदा रक्षा करते थे।

They were heroic and ever energetic, followed the science of kingship, and always protected the honest people of the land.

वे ब्राह्मणों और क्षत्रियों को पीड़ित किए बिना कोष भरते थे, और व्यक्ति के बल और दुर्बलता को देखकर ही कठोर दंड देते थे।

They filled the treasury without oppressing brahmins or kshatriyas, and their punishments were severe only after weighing each person's strength and weakness.

वे सब पवित्र, एकमत और सजग थे, और नगर या राज्य में कहीं कोई झूठ बोलने वाला नहीं था।

They were all honest, of one mind and well informed, and in the city or the kingdom there was not one man who spoke falsely.

वहाँ कोई ऐसा दुष्ट नहीं था जो पराई स्त्री में रत हो; पूरा राज्य और वह श्रेष्ठ नगर शांत था।

There was no wicked man there who coveted another's wife; the whole kingdom and that fine city were at peace.

वे सुंदर वस्त्र और वेश वाले, सब सुशील थे, और नीति की दृष्टि से राजा के हित के लिए जागरूक रहते थे।

They were well dressed and well groomed, all of good character, and kept watch with the eye of policy for the good of the king.

उन्होंने अपने गुरु के गुण अपनाए थे, पराक्रम के लिए प्रसिद्ध थे, और अपनी बुद्धि की दृढ़ता से विदेशों में भी जाने जाते थे।

They had taken on the virtues of their teacher, were famed for valour, and through the soundness of their judgement were known even in foreign lands.

वे संधि और विग्रह का तत्व जानते थे, स्वभाव से संपन्न थे, मंत्रणा गुप्त रखने में समर्थ और सूक्ष्म विषयों में बारीक बुद्धि वाले थे; नीतिशास्त्र के विशेषज्ञ होकर वे सदा प्रिय बोलते थे।

They knew the truth of peace and war, were naturally gifted, able to keep counsel secret and subtle in fine matters of judgement; experts in the science of policy, they always spoke pleasantly.

ऐसे गुणी मंत्रियों के साथ निष्पाप राजा दशरथ ने पृथ्वी पर शासन किया।

With such virtuous ministers, the sinless King Dasharatha ruled the earth.

गुप्तचरों से देखते हुए, धर्म से प्रजा को प्रसन्न रखते हुए, प्रजा की रक्षा करते और अधर्म से बचते हुए, तीनों लोकों में प्रसिद्ध, उदार और सत्यप्रतिज्ञ उस नरव्याघ्र ने इस पृथ्वी पर शासन किया।

Watching through his spies, pleasing his people by dharma, protecting his subjects and shunning wrongdoing, famed in the three worlds, generous and true to his promise, that tiger among men ruled this earth.

उन्हें अपने से बड़ा या बराबर कोई शत्रु नहीं मिला। मित्रों से संपन्न, सामंतों से नमित और अपने प्रताप से सब काँटे हटा चुके राजा ने संसार पर वैसे ही शासन किया जैसे इंद्र स्वर्ग पर।

He found no enemy greater than or equal to himself. Rich in friends, with vassals bowing to him and every thorn removed by his might, the king ruled the world as Indra rules heaven.

मंत्रणा और हित के कार्यों में नियुक्त, अनुरक्त, कुशल और समर्थ उन मंत्रियों से घिरे राजा वैसे ही चमके जैसे तेजस्वी किरणों के साथ उगता सूर्य।

Surrounded by those ministers, appointed to counsel and to the good of the state, devoted, skilful and able, the king shone like the rising sun with its radiant rays.
