Forged from the sun
The divine craftsman Vishwakarma trims the blinding radiance of Surya, and from the filings fashions the discus for Vishnu.

The Sudarshana Chakra is the spinning discus of Vishnu, held in his upper right hand. It cuts down those who threaten dharma and returns to his finger when its work is done. It severs Rahu's head, frees Gajendra and ends Shishupala, and in South India it is worshipped as the deity Chakrattalvar.
The texts tell different stories.
The divine craftsman Vishwakarma trims the blinding radiance of Surya, and from the filings fashions the discus for Vishnu.
Vishnu worships Shiva with a thousand lotuses. One is missing, so he offers his own lotus-like eye, and Shiva gives him the chakra.
At the burning of the Khandava forest, Agni and Varuna give Krishna the discus and the mace Kaumodaki.
