Won from the demon Panchajana
Krishna enters the ocean to rescue his teacher Sandipani's son, slays the demon Panchajana who lived in a conch, and keeps the shell.

Panchajanya is the sacred conch (shankha) of Vishnu, carried in his upper left hand. In the Bhagavata Purana Krishna wins it from the demon Panchajana, and in the Bhagavad Gita he blows it to open the Kurukshetra war. Its sound is linked with the primordial Om.
The texts tell different stories.
Krishna enters the ocean to rescue his teacher Sandipani's son, slays the demon Panchajana who lived in a conch, and keeps the shell.
Some retellings place the conch among the treasures that rose from the churning of the ocean, alongside Lakshmi and the Kaustubha gem.
